Annual Meeting

The annual meeting will be held on February 5 after worship. Please plan to attend.

We have nursing home services twice during the month of February. February 5, we have services at Taylorville Estates, and on February 19, we have services at Meadow Manor. All services are at 3:30 pm. Please help us bring God’s message to these residents.

Here we are, ready for the month of February! Seems like only yesterday it was the beginning of a new year. February is the shortest month; but this is leap year, and we get an extra day. The 14th of course is Valentine’s Day, a time that people show their love for one another. Wouldn't it be wonderful if that could happen every day, and people would treat each other as lovingly as they do on Valentine’s Day? The same goes for loving God. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone would love and honor Him the same everyday! Mark 12:30-31 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these."

On Sunday, Feb 5, after church service we will have our annual business meeting. Sunday, Feb 12, we are planning to have a POTLUCK dinner after church service. Bring a dish of your favorite food and join us for a good meal and visit with one another. There is always plenty of food for everyone. Plates, drinks, utensils furnished, so make plans to be here!

Starting Feb. 29, the Ministerial Association is again sponsoring six weeks of Lenten Services on Wednesdays. The worship service starts at 12:00 is over at 12:30, and afterward you may enjoy a lunch of soup and sandwiches. They do ask for a donation which helps the ministerial group carry out their program of helping people in need. The first service will be at Davis Memorial Christian Church, and Pastor Steve will be the speaker. March 28, we, at First Baptist, will be hosting the service and lunch. If at all possible, please try to attend these services as they lead us through the weeks preceding Easter.

Prayer service is each Wednesday at 6 pm. We are a small group, but we continue to pray for those in need, for our church family, for the community, for our government that those who make decisions for us will do what is needed. Even if you can't be with us, take the time to pray with us!

If you would like to join in and sing with the choir, we will be practicing some music for Easter starting Wednesday, Feb 1.

Yesterday is a cancelled check; tomorrow is a promissory note; today is the only cash you have. Spend it wisely!

Blessings, Nancy Andrews

Potluck

There will be a potluck after worship on February 12. Bring your favorite dish and your appetite for some good food and fellowship. Drink and table service will be provided.

Greetings,

February is upon us in the year 2012. I think about how fast time flies, and all the things God has done in my life and in the lives of those around me. God’s faithfulness amazes me. As I think about Valentine’s Day approaching, the day of love, for some strange reason I am reminded of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Adebnego. God showed them love when they were about to be roasted by King Nebuchadnezzar. But this wasn’t some out of the blue event that had happened, it resulted from the dedicated, faithful service from the three.

As they were confronted with having to make a hard choice between worshiping God or obeying the King, they chose God. Now, it may be easy to say, “Of course, you follow God.” But these men didn’t decide that on the spot, they knew their response before the question was posed.

When we are placed in difficult situations, we should always know the answer. But most importantly, we must know the question. Is God going to be kept in the #1 position in my life? Loving God and loving others must always come first.

As the three “wise men” placed their love for God above all else, God showed His love to them by saving them from the blazing furnace. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Rom. 6:23

Love God and love others,

Pastor Steve
